Can Customers Compare Products From Different Collections?

Yes — comparisons aren't limited to a single collection

Customers can compare any products in your store, regardless of which collections they belong to. The product search bar in the comparison widget searches across your entire catalog.

How it works on product pages

When a customer is on a product page and opens the compare widget:

  • The current product is automatically added as the first product to compare
  • The search bar lets them find any other product in your store by name
  • The product carousel shows suggested products — by default from the same collection, but you can configure this to show products from a specific collection or from across your entire store

This means a customer viewing a laptop could search for and compare it against a tablet from a completely different collection.

How it works on collection pages

On collection pages, the widget lets customers select multiple products from the current collection to compare. They can also use the search bar to add products from other collections.

The carousel on collection pages can be configured independently from the product page carousel — you might want to show products from the current collection on collection pages, but cross-category suggestions on product pages.

You can control which products appear in the carousel on the Customization page:

  • Default collection — Shows products from the same collection as the current page
  • Specific collection — Always shows products from a collection you choose
  • All products — Shows products from across your entire store
  • Pinned products — Manually select specific products to always appear in the carousel
  • Pinned only mode — Only shows your hand-picked products, hiding everything else

Comparison limits

Customers can compare up to 8 products at a time, from any combination of collections. Each comparison counts as one use against your monthly allowance. For details on how usage is tracked, see Understanding Your Comparison Limits & Billing.
